The word anatomy is of Greek origin (50BC) signifying dissection or cutting up. Historically, surgeons were called anatomical surgeons because they learnt their craft by dissecting dead bodies popularly called cadavers. That was the best way to learn. Not from books but from the fabric of the human body.
